The arc of growth through the semester for me has been one of trusting my intuition and what I find interesting in the world around me instead of second guessing my impulses. In practicing trust in what my eye is drawn to, I have begun to develop a personal aesthetic that I might not have accessed otherwise. I can’t say objectively whether my photographs are ‘better’, but I can say that the process of engaging with photography as an artistic practice has become more captivating. It has begun to break apart the notion of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ and allowed me to relate to shape, texture, reflection, perspective, light, etc. as narrative tools to express something essential to existence. In this way the process has become a practice of freeing. Moreover, it has spurred me to find the mystic in the mundane, which has altered my relationship with space and the way I move through it.
